Aircraft for cargo charter

How cargo charter booking works

  1. 1

    Measure and weigh the load

Total weight, the size of each piece and what the goods are.

  2. 2

    Declare anything special

Dangerous goods, temperature limits, high value or fragile items are flagged before an aircraft is offered.

  3. 3

    Match the aircraft

The load, the cargo door size and both airports decide which aircraft can do it.

  4. 4

    Plan handling at both ends

Loading, customs where needed, and road transport to and from each airport.

Is cargo charter right for you?

Best for

  • Manufacturers with a production line waiting on a part
  • Companies moving urgent, high-value or time-critical goods
  • Event, film and exhibition teams moving equipment on a deadline
  • Relief and project teams sending supplies to hard-to-reach places

When to book

  • When the cost of waiting is higher than the cost of the aircraft
  • When the load will not fit on, or will not be accepted by, a scheduled flight
  • When the pickup or delivery point is far from an airline cargo route

Before you book

  • The size of the biggest piece rules out more aircraft than the total weight does. Check it against the cargo door, not just the cabin.
  • Dangerous goods must be declared at the start. An undeclared item can stop the flight on the day.
  • International shipments need customs clearance, which takes its own time.
  • Smaller airports may not handle cargo outside their operating hours.

Cargo charter FAQs

How do I book a cargo aircraft charter in India?

Share what the goods are, the total weight, the size of each piece, the pickup and delivery locations and when the load is ready. With those, the aircraft that can carry it are found and quoted, with handling at both ends shown.

What is the difference between air cargo and a cargo charter?

Air cargo shares space on a scheduled flight at the airline’s timing, while a cargo charter hires the whole aircraft for one shipment on your route and timing.

Can a private jet carry cargo?

Yes, for small, light items that fit through the door, such as urgent spare parts or documents. Anything larger or heavier needs a turboprop with a cargo door or a freighter.

Can dangerous goods go on a cargo charter?

Some can, if they are declared, packed and labelled to India’s rules for dangerous goods by air, but the operator decides and some items cannot fly at all, so declare them before booking.

What is cargo charter?

On a scheduled flight, cargo travels in the space left after passengers and their bags, on the airline’s routes and timetable. A cargo charter turns that around. The aircraft flies for your shipment, from the airport nearest the pickup to the one nearest the delivery, when the load is ready. In India, a non-scheduled operator’s permit from the DGCA covers carrying goods as well as passengers.

Two numbers decide the aircraft: the total weight and the size of the biggest piece. A small part for a stopped production line may fit in the cabin of a private jet. A turboprop with a large cargo door, such as the Pilatus PC-12, takes awkward items a jet cannot. Pallets and heavy loads need a freighter. Measuring every piece properly at the start saves more time than anything else.

Some goods count as dangerous goods in the air, including many batteries, chemicals, gases and some medical items. They fly only if they are declared, packed and labelled to India’s rules for carrying dangerous goods by air, and the operator can still refuse them. Declare them at the start, not at the airport.
